Recently, I had my first mammogram. I was so nervous about doing this examination that I cancelled four appointments. I was told that it was going to hurt and it was going to be uncomfortable. I was most scared of the results. You see, both of my grandmothers and several of my aunts had breast cancer. It was the cause of the death of some of my aunts but it was caught early enough to be removed and treated for everyone else. When I went to the appointment, the technician was very nice to me. She had me to remove my blouse and my bra. She had me to stand against this machine facing towards it. She placed my breast on the machine and flattened with the top board. I took for scans which took all of about 10-15 minutes. It did not hurt at all. All my preconceived notions about this examination was exactly that...a notion.
So I encourage all of you to get tested. Get your mammograms. Get your prostate checked. Find out what is going on with your body. Cancer is nothing to play with. If you can catch it early and get treated, then do it. I will keep you all posted when I find out the results of my mammogram.
