BFT Discussion: Why do our children act they way that they do?

Dorothy wants to know "Who's fault is it that our child(ren) act the way they do? Is it the parents, teachers, etc...where should be place the blame?

  1. This a great question and one that has many answers.In regards to our children some of it is what I mentioned below. Unless it is mainstream (targeted advertising)our children do not see themselves in their life outside home. Our children's reactions are often a direct result from segregated/economic segregation.

    Location,social environment,group norms(behavior both local and regional), etc. I feel it is in part to our own inability to establish ourselves as a productive group.There are numerous stories in the MSM about the problems with our community, but we rarely see our community doing anything constructive with a long term view. Alot of projects get started, but when we begin to look at long term impacts very little ground is gained in the end. We have entrepreneurs, entertainers and well to do's, but a sustainable African-American market doesn't exist. And because our market doesn't exist (only in small specialty markets)we are defined by what we have,and not by what we produce.
