BFT Discussion: What Would You Ask President Obama To Do For The Black Community?

I am sure that many of us in the black community voted for Barack Obama to be the first African American President of the United States for one reason or another. If you could ask him personally do three things for the black community, what would it be?

BFT Discussion: Former Bay Area Rapid Transit Officer Charged With Shooting An Unarmed Man. Thoughts?

I was not sure whether I wanted to discuss this topic or not, but here it is. About 18 months ago, former Bay area transit officer Johannes Mehserle was charged for shooting Oscar Grant as he lay face down on an Oakland train platform. Mehserle contends that he was reaching for his tazer and not his gun. Grant was not armed and laying facedown. To catch us up all up to speed, the trial of whether this police officer is guilty or not is currently happening. Without passing judgement, how do you really feel about this?

Below is a video of the actual shooting. Caution: This is graphic and parental discretion is advised.

BFT Food For Thought: Black Men It Is Your Time

This past weekend, a very close family and childhood friend was killed in a car accident. It was a horrific accident and it tears my heart up that this happened to such a vibrant young man. I feel like we are losing our black men. I feel so strongly about this that I want to scream! I want to cry! So black men this is for you! I am not talking to all black men but if this affects you, then I am talking to you. I am asking you all to step your game up. Think about what you are doing. Think about the lives that you affect. Think about your children. Think about what you mean to the world. It is time to make better choices! It is time be the husbands, the fathers and kings that you are born to be! I love all of you and many blessings to and for you! Ladies...don't worry...I have a word for you too. So please stay tuned.

BFT Discussion: Are Black Women Hating On Each Other? Thoughts?

This discussion comes from Rosalyne. "Maybe this had been discussed before, but I live in the Los Angeles area and we, black women, do not speak to each other, what is going on. Dare not let one of us be with a friend not black, hell we will make every effort to not look, walk a different way or just merely blatantly ignore. I was walking yesterday around Lake Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley and this black lady walking opposite and we were about to meet and I was going to speak but she turned her head as if to say don't even think it. Today, I made one speak to me, but everybody else will speak and if they don't no worries, but my own peeps, come on now. What is going on with us?"

BFT Food For Thought: Do You Have The Courage?

BFT Food For Thought: This past weekend my niece, Chelseah, graduated from high school. This young lady has endured a lot. She was diagnosed with lupus and was really sick. She had to learn to walk, talk and learn all of her school work over again. Guess what! She did it! She is doing well. I really admire her courage and determination in fighting this disease and getting her life back. She believed in something within herself and greater than herself. Her lupus is inactive now. She still has to take precautions, but she doing better than ever now. So if you had to overcome something as devasting as this, could you do it? I know you could. Make the changes in your life that you need to, so that you can be and live a better you. Love and blessings to all of you.
