BFT DVD Movie Spotlight: "Love & Other Four Letter Words"

I justed to share one of my favorite independent films. It is called "Love & Other Four Letter Words" staring Tangi Miller, Flex Alexander, Tasha Smith, Essence Atkins, Aloma Wright, Sandy Brown, and Marcus Patrick. This is a cute romantic comedy!

This film is about Stormy La Rue, a Chicago TV talk show host who has dreams of taking her show national. The only thing she loves as much as her pursuit of television greatness is her grandmother, who raised her in the "deep south." Stormy would do anything to please her "Nana," even if it means lying to her on her deathbed! Stormy tries to pull of the biggest show of her life...by faking her own wedding!

BFT Movie Review: "Death At A Funeral"

I went to see the re-make of "Death at a Funeral" staring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Loretta Devine, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, Luke Wilson, Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Peter Dinklage, Ron Glass, Keith David, James Marsden, and Danny Glover. This movie is about a family's who is holding a funeral for the patriach of the family in their home. There are a lot of twist and turns in getting in making the funeral happen. You know what happens at a black funeral, there is a lot of drama.

I found this film to be just ok. Now granted there were some very scenes, but in all I was expecting the movie have more funnier scenes. The trailer scenes weren't as funny when I saw the movie but the movie did make up for it with the bathroom scene with Tracy Morgan and Danny Glover. James Marsden was funny as hell too. I give this film 3 out of 5 black stars.

BFT Discussion: Black Folk Mentality

Why do people especially black folks idolize the hustler mentality or street mentality? It seems that a lot of our young men only talk about getting money (drugs, gambling, bootleg movies, etc.), sex (how many women they have and how many kids and baby mamas they), degrading women, and killing each other. A lot of our young women are looking like prostitutes. Some of doing the same things these young men are doing. If our youth is the voice of tomorrow, then our future don't look to bright. Your thoughts!!!!!

BFT Discussion: Thoughts on the Confederate Flag?

This weekend, I traveled to my cousin's house in Oakley, California for my cousin's birthday party. As we turned into her subdivision, we noticed that we were following an old green pick-up truck that had a huge confederate flag on the back of it. I was actually a little stunned to see this right before my eyes in this day and age. I kept on my way to my cousin's house but I really did not know where to place my feeling on this. What do you think about this? What do you think the motive is?

BFT Food For Thought: He Saw The Best In Me

On my way to Sunrise Service, I was listening to the song "He Saw The Best In Me" by Marvin Sapp and it got me to thinking. Why is it so much easier to look at the negative things of a person? Better than that... why is it easier to believe the negative things about a person? Shouldn't we be looking for the best things in a person? Shouldn't we be looking more at the good qualities than the negative qualities? Do you need to change your train of thought? I am guilty for looking at the negative things more than the positive. I know that I can and have to do better. Can you admit that? Are you willing to do something about it?
