BFT Discussion: Are Some Single Dads Getting A Bad Rap?

I got a question for you. Why do some women try to stand in the way of fathers and their kids? I know that a lot has to do with anger between the two parents but why bring the children into this? I am going to leave this kind of vague so we can get different responses. So BFT what do you think about this? Are some single dads getting a bad rap?

BFT Discussion: How do you feel about other cultures using the word "nigga"?
Here is a topic that I would like to bring light to. A few times, I have witnessed some Latinos and Asians calling each other "niggas". They were saying it like they had a hood pass or something. What was really interesting, they were saying this in the company of the black guys they were hanging with and they had not reaction. How do you all feel about other cultures calling themselves or their friends "niggas"?

BFT Discussion: What Are You Prepared To Do To Ensure Success For Our Youth's Futures?
We are in the midst of Black History Month. Yes I know we don't get a national parade or a barbeque but our forefathers died fighting for us to get freedom for all black folks. I know that there is alot of violence amongst our black folks expecially amongst our youths and our black men. I know that many black folks don't feel that they don't have a shot of having that dream job, house and/or financial independence. So I feel in order to keep this legacy going, I feel that we should all do our best to be the best people we can be. It is up to us keep the legacy going. It is up to us to fight for the right for our children so that they can be afforded every opportunity that they need and deserve for a successful life. For me, it all start with a vision and then action. So I dare ask you, what is your vision? What can and will you do to ensure that our children can and have the opportunities of obtaining a better life?

BFT Discussion: What are your thoughts on the John Mayer Interview with Playboy?

This topic was brought to us by Donald Yarbrough from the Black Folks Think Fan Page on Facebook. He has some really valid points. So here is his post...
"Singer JOHN MAYER is in hot water for his PLAYBOY interview. Along with using the word nigger, Mayer says in so many words, that he "would not f--- no Black woman." Mayer says that his penis is "DAVID DUKE"(KKK leader) WOW! Am I supposed to be offended by this? Was MUHAMMAD ALI racist because he didn't want white women...? I guess Black women are on the open market for everybody, yet STILL considered a "N". The white woman has ALWAYS had the right to say NO to the Black man."
Below is the part of the interview that John Mayer had with Playboy. You can read it for yourself. Tell us what you think about it.
PLAYBOY: If you didn’t know you, would you think you’re a douche bag?
MAYER: It depends on what I picked up. My two biggest hits are “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and “Daughters.” If you think those songs are pandering, then you’ll think I’m a douche bag. It’s like I come on very strong. I am a very…I’m just very. V-E-R-Y. And if you can’t handle very, then I’m a douche bag. But I think the world needs a little very. That’s why black people love me.
PLAYBOY: Because you’re very?
MAYER: Someone asked me the other day, “What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?” And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, “I can’t really have a hood pass. I’ve never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, ‘We’re full.’"
PLAYBOY: It is true; a lot of rappers love you. You recorded with Common and Kanye West, played live with Jay-Z.
MAYER: What is being black? It’s making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that’s seen as a struggle and making it work for you, or you’ll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude’s.
PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?
MAYER: I don’t think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.
PLAYBOY: Let’s put some names out there. Let’s get specific.
MAYER: I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She’s superhot, and she’s also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she’d be like, “Yeah, I sucked his dick. Whatever.” And you’d be like, “What? We weren’t talking about that.” That’s what “Heartbreak Warfare” is all about, when a girl uses jealousy as a tactic.

BFT Discussion: Does Michael Vick Deserve a Second Chance?

Do you believe in second chances? I just watched the first two episodes of "The Michael Vick Project". I believe that this documentary is an eye opener of the life of Michael Vick. If you remember Michael Vick was a professional football player for the Atlanta Falcons. He was implicated in an illegal interstate dog fighting ring. He served twenty-three months in jail and three months on house arrest. He was graced with a second chance of becoming part of the Philadelphia Eagles. What are your thoughts on this documentary? Do you believe that he has redeemed himself?

BFT Discussion: Can You Or Your Marriage Survive Infidelity?

Can you or your marriage survive infidelity? I was talking to my grandmother sometime ago, and she telling me that my grandfather was a piece of work back in the day. Although they did 50 plus years of marriage, she told me their marriage was not always easy. She encourage many years of my grandfather bringing his check home on Friday and not returning home to Sunday night or Monday morning. She encountered women saying that they were leaving their spouses for only my grandfather to deny that he even knew them. I asked my grandmother why she stayed. She said that she left a few times but would always return. She said that she loved her children and she did not want them to go through life of not having the all the advantages that would benefit them from a two parent home and income. She said that it took years to get over all of what my grandfather did but in the same breath he made sure she had a comfortable life. She always had the biggest house, the nicest clothes and a new Cadillac every year. She said that he afforded her the opportunity to provide well for her children and grandchildren with the best education (including college)and with all of their wants and needs. She also said by staying it afforded them to help a lot of our extended family on both sides. My grandmother felt like she had more to lose by leaving. Now don't get me wrong, she gave him hell all of the way. She did not stand for too much of nothing. Now since my grandfather has passed away, she said that she valued him as a man and a provider. She said that she never stopped loving him and that she able to put a lot of what he did to her away. So I ask couples today, can you survive infidelity?

BFT’s Recap of the BET Honors 2010
The BET Honors was hosted by the very beautiful, Gabrielle Union. She presented with lots of style and grace. This is Gabrielle’s second time hosting the awards.

The five honorees honored at the BET Honors are as follows:
Ø Queen Latifah – Media Recipient
Ø Dr. Keith L. Black – Public Service Recipient
Ø Sean “Diddy” Combs – Entrepreneur Recipient
Ø Dr. Ruth J. Simmons – Education Recipient
Ø Whitney Houston – Entertainment Recipient

Now for the Highlights of the Nights…
What brought me to tears was Diddy’s acceptance speech. He attributed his work ethic “I don’t stop, I won’t stop” to his mother.
I loved the performances of Stevie Wonder and Take 6, Ms. Patti LaBelle, and India Arie. India Arie’s song was simply beautiful. But the following performers stole the show in my opinion.
Gospel Singer, Kim Burrell, surprised Whitney Houston with her heartfelt rendition of “I Believe In You And Me”. Ms. Thing did her thing! Now, don’t mind Ms. Houston. She got a little excited. Here is the performance.
Jennifer Hudson did a fabulous job singing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. She sang effortlessly. I loved the performance.
Mary J. Blige was off the hook as usual. She did a medially of songs. She had those folks out of their seats. She did a little of the new mixed with the old.
So there you have it. The BFT recap of the 2010 BET Honors.
