Nicole's Corner: Being Pro-Black

Hey BFT Family! It has been a minute since I have done a Nicole's Corner. Well I think that it is time and I want to discuss being pro-black. I love my black hertiage. I love the fact that we are strong and resilient people. I love the fact that we are smart and intelligent (even though some of the world don't think we are). I love the fact that we are beautiful. This does not say that I don't like any other cultures because I do. I respect them the same as I do the black culture. My tastebuds tell me that I may be Latino in another life.

The one thing that I am feeling is that we as black people always seem to get the short end of the stick. Some of us don't think as highly as we should. I believe some of us don't think that we have the power to do anything. Guess what black folks?! We do have power! We have buying power! We have verbal power! If there is something that the black community does not like, we should stop supporting it as a group. Money talks in this society. We don't have to do it violently. Stand strong and stop spending your money.

What if a group put $1, $10, $100, or even $1000 in a pot to build and buy businesses? Could we get the type of movies made that depict us? Could we get the type of music out that is positive? Could we rebuild our schools and not depend on the government to do so? Could we have the resouces our kids need to make it in the world? Could we have health options?

Now I am not saying that my way is the only way but I do think that this is a start. If our forefathers could get through the Montgomery Bus Boycott and elect our first Black President, then I think that we can do anything we like but I believe it has to srart as a team.

Well this is the end of my time today. Think about what I said. Remember, I love you and there is nothing that you can do about it.
