Tyler Perry's 60 Minutes Interview
One of the things that amazes me is how people become successful. Tyler Perry's personal story is one of those stories that intrigues me, even to this day. He is deemed one of the most influential black men in Hollywood, especially in Black Hollywood.I have been watching Tyler Perry for a while. I was not there from the beginning, but I think I became a fan around the second or third play. From that point, he had me hooked.
Tyler Perry embodies a man of resilence. In all of his plays and movies, there is always a message. There is always someone with heavy Christian values. Even Madea, the obrasive, fast-talking, gun-toting grandmother has some Christian values. She may not be able to tell the stories of the bible correctly, but she does have the core values of helping, protecting and advising her family and friends of self-belief.
I just watched the latest 60 Minute interview of Tyler Perry. To see where he has come from to where he is now is a blessing. The pain and anquish that he suffered as a child and to turn that into a multiple million dollar brand and business is simply amazing. Many black folks who do support Tyler Perry seem to relate to at least one or more his characters. I, for one, could relate to Madea and Mr. Brown. My grandmother and one of my cousins was not as funny and silly as Madea and Mr. Brown, but when company came they would use what they called proper talk. My grandmother was famous for saying "heller" and notorious for calling my aunts "Liser" and "Sheiler". My aunts names are Lisa and Sheila. My paternal grandmother called me "Lacole" until the day she passed. My cousin, Tim, would call my mother "Bobby" but my mother's name was Barbara. How did he get Bobby out of Barbara? When we hear it, the whole family just cracks up. So do I understand that the characters of Madea and Mr. Brown? Yes I do!
Below is the 60 mintues interview that Tyler Perry did. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Steve Harvey's Emotional Testimony on the Donnie McClurkin's TBN Show
I watched Steve Harvey's testimony and it brought me to tears. This is Steve Harvey in rare form. I believe that this is the real man behind the lights and cameras. If you haven't seen it, watch the video. His testimony may touch you too! God Bless you, Mr. Harvey. Thanks for showing your real self! If no one else appreciate your testimony, I do. Thank you so much for sharing.

Nicole's Corner
Let me formally welcome you to Nicole's Corner. My intent for this platform is discuss my views on any given topic. I am so excited that my voice will finally be heard. That is the point of my commentary and Black Folks Think! To let your voice be heard. To have a say in what is going on in the world especially in Black America. You never know who is reading your opinions and comments. It may inspire someone. It may teach someone something new. It may encourage someone to think outside the box or to try something new. Something that they were discouraged to do but have the courage and support to do it now. Doesn't that help make a stronger black community? Let's talk about this Lil Wayne ordeal. It is on my mind heavily. It is reported that he has plead guilty to gun charges and will get up to 8 months to one year in jail. Now let me ask you... is this what he worked hard for? Does he know how blessed he is? Is this suppose to give him more street credibility? I don't get it. One of the things that I am disappointed by Lil Wayne is that he has a voice that affect millions of teens and young adults. He can do so much good but his rap lyrics prove otherwise. I feel that a lot of his songs are degrading to women and it teaches young men how to be thugs. Why does he want this type of world? Why call a woman a bitch? Why does he have a gun and why should we come after him with a gun? I don't get his lyrics. I don't support this music.
Parents, it is time to find out what your children are listening to. It is time to put a stop to this negative music! Our kids and young adults are glorifying this type of music and thought mentality. If we are to create a strong black community, we need change the thought process that this young brotha and the kids that follow him has. We need teach them an alternative to the negativity that they are offering. So my challenge to you and I will be doing as well, is to teach your children (whether they be yours or someone elses) a different alternative to being negative. Let's show them how to be positive. Let's show them how to be creative in a positive manner. Let's show them that we believe that they could be a positive force in the world.
Now I have given my two cents. I hope you all will take on the challenge of steering our youth and young adults into a more positive direction. We have to adopt the mentality of each one teach one. If we don't do it, then who will. It is up to us change our community. One thing that I have learned is that we are here on this earth to help someone else. That is a gift that God has given each and everyone of us. So why not use it. Use it to His glory.
So I will leave you all with this. I love you and there is nothing that you can do about it. Until next time, I will chat with you later.

Discussion of the Day: Child Support Scenario
A friend of mine has an 18 year-old daughter who is a full-time college student. She recently moved in with her father. For the last two months her mother has been receiving child support even though the child is not in her care. Since the shift of care is now the sole responsibility of the father, should the mother pay child support at this point? Also what are your thoughts on the daughter testifying against the mother in court on the father's behalf regarding this issue?
Nuttin but Strings
These guys are awesome! I saw these young men on "The Monique Show" and they were off the hook. So much talent and someone for the youth to look up to. Their creative talents have paid off. Congratulations young men! A job well done! You have my support! Here is a clip from the finals of "America Got Talent"

Thoughts on Nene & Greg's Disagreement
Hey Housewives of Altanta fans! Tonight was the season finale. Last week, Nene met her father, Allen. By the way, the man rumored to be her father looks just like her oldest son, Bryson. Anyway, Nene and husband got into an argument. He does not support Nene wanting to get to know if this man is in fact her father and to build a relationship with him. Greg feels like Nene will get hurt or used. He wants to protect her from that. So BFT what do you think? Do you think Greg should support Nene or do you think he should stand on his decision of not supporting this relationship? Do you think that Nene should pursue a relationship with this newly found father without Greg's blessing? BFT what do you think?| Reactions: |

Nicole's Corner

Hey Family! I just wanted to talk to you for a second. I wanted to take this opporturnity to express some of my feelings.
One of things that I would like to get of my chest is the thought that Black Folks Think (BFT) is a racist forum. It is not! That could not be further from the truth. BFT was created because I wanted to create a stong black community that operated in love. I wanted a community that I and my children could be proud of.
BFT's mission is educate, motivate and to empower. That is what I intend to do. Because God has given me this mission, it seem almost befitting that I would start in my own community. I believe the black community needs help the most. I know that some of us are doing well but some of us aren't. It is apparent in the high rate of black folks in jail and on drugs. It is apparent in the broken homes where there is no father or the lack of parenting. It is apparent in the lack of educaton that some of our children is receiving. I would like to make a difference.
Another reason for BFT is because I feel like black folks are still regarded as second class citizens. Have you ever heard the phrase "Black Folks have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to get into the race"? Well for me that is true. It seems that we are still being judge on the content of our skin and not on our character. This is something that has to stop. So my mission is bring information related to Black Folks in news/ politics, sports, education, parenting, love/ relationships, health/ beauty, history, money/finance, hollywood, and the arts. I know this a big task but God is leading me so I will be fine in my mission and journey.
Just like you, I am continually and constantly learning. I will be trying new things that I never thought I would do. I will be asking for help on my quest. I will be instilling some of my experiences in to making this mission areality.
That is all for now. I will be chatting with you either in print or by video in the future. Please know that I love each and everyone one of you and there is nothing that you can do about it. Talk to you soon!

Lalah Hathaway on "The Mo'Nique Show"

Lalah Hathaway is one of the baddest performers in the land! The girl has definitely gotten her daddy's singing gene. Just in case you did not know, Lalah is the daughter of famed singer, Donnie Hathaway.
I got a chance to see Lalah Hathaway perform a few months ago. She is not your typical performer. She came on to the stage with no shoes on, her dredlocks free-flowing, and as humble as can be. Baby! When I say she put on a show. She put on a show! She sang all of my favorites such as "Somethin'", "Heaven Knows", "Forever, For Always, For Love" and "Let Go".
I was so excited to see Lalah perform on "The Mo'Nique Show". Ms. Thang rocked it! She sang one of Luther Vandross classics "Forever, For Always, For Love". I thought I would share the performance with you!
To see Lalah Hathaway live, check out her website www.lalahhathaway.com. If you don't have it, please get her latest CD "Self-Portrait". It is a must-have for your music collection. I give her lastest CD 5 out of 5 black stars.

Thoughts on Chris Rock's "Good Hair" movie?

What do you think of Chris Rock's documentary on good hair? I posted the trailer for you all to see.
Normally, I would have gone to see the movie by now but the movie is only playing in one movie theatre in Alameda County. I am really pissed about this so I am unable to comment the way that I would like to about this movie.
However, I do have some pointed questions about this subject.
Black women... what do you think is good hair? Why the weaves, perms, braids, hair drama (multi-colors) etc? Why not wear your natural hair? Black women, do you feel less attractive if your hair was not done?
Black men... what are your thoughts on this topic? Do you care about the weaves, perms, etc that black women do to their hair? Will you find black women attractive if black women wear their natural hair?
Let us know what you think about "Good Hair". I hope to hear from you!!!!!
